Cultivate Leadership Skills

Overview

Good leaders are made, not born. If you have the desire and willpower, you can cultivate effective leadership skills. Anyone can be a leader regardless of the position they hold in their work environment. Many people are already leaders and function very well at it. Do not assume because one person is your “overseer” this makes them a leader. Some people do not aspire to become leaders at their place of employment, but rather, become leaders in community or civic organizations. Many of these people are great leaders. Maybe you are one of them.

People will follow you for two reasons: They follow you because of your character; for who you are. They also follow you for your skills; for what you can do. Make every effort to convey skilful and honourable leadership to those who would look to you for your wisdom, your guidance and your belief in the promise of the human spirit.

Most organizations and work groups are managed, rather than led. This is a common problem in business, but a real problem in organizations confronted by transitions and change. Your job title is just a label. “Leader” is a reputation … and you personally have to earn it.

Good leaders develop through a never-ending process of self-study, education, training, and experience. This course will help you along that process.

• Understand the other types of leadership styles
• Grasp the value of the five attributes of personal leadership
• The importance of personal leadership before public leadership
• Reduce time wasters all management people face
