Long recognized as a significant business issue, health and safety has become more topical of late. In Early 2008, a case wound its way through the Supreme Court of Canada which has changed everything. Setting precedence after the March 2004 change to the criminal code, R. V. Transpavé Ltd. was convicted for criminal negligence causing death. In addition to the company’s conviction, the officers and directors, managers and supervisors were also charged. This paves the way for crown attorneys to prosecute other organizations begging the question, what can I do to protect myself and the company? In order to demonstrate in court that appropriate actions have been taken, it is necessary to demonstrate Due Diligence. Implementing a recognized management system standard can greatly increase organizations ability to do so. OHSAS 18001 is the most widely accepted standard for health and safety. Our OHSAS 18001 Implementation Course will teach participants what is necessary in order to properly manage health and safety requirements. Over the two days of training, the content and intent of the standard will be discussed. We will also provide useful implementation guidance and practice on how to make the standard work for you.
