What is OHSAS 18001?

OHSAS 18000 refers to a series of standards for Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems. OHSAS 18001 sets requirements for monitoring and improving safety in the workplace. In addition to the OHSAS 18001 specifications, there is a guidance document known as OHSAS 18002:2000 Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems Guidelines for the implementation of OHSAS 18001.

OHSAS 18001 is generic and is applicable to all types of organizations. It can be seamlessly integrated with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001. Once an organization has implemented the processes and procedures that comply with the requirements listed in the OHSAS 18001 document, they can be audited for certification to this standard.
